Augusta Distillery Wheated Bourbon Single Barrel Cask Strength

Augusta Distillery Wheated Bourbon Single Barrel Cask Strength

Batch 26-13 | 119.7 Proof

This was our first pour from Augusta Distillery, and it definitely got our attention.

Some bottles win you over with complexity. Some do it with balance. And some make their point before you ever take a sip. This one did exactly that. The color is deep, rich, and inviting — the kind of appearance that immediately tells you this bourbon means business. Frankly, it looks like what you want a quality bourbon to look like in the glass.

That first impression matters, but thankfully this bottle backs it up.

Augusta’s wheated single barrel is a newer addition to the distillery’s lineup and its first wheated expression, so there is already some curiosity around what this bottle is trying to be. In our glass, batch 26-13 answers that question pretty clearly: this is a sweet, full-flavored wheater that does not run from its proof.

Barrel Proof Notes

Appearance
Deep, rich, and inviting. This is one of the highest-scoring bottles we have had for appearance. It simply looks right in the glass — polished, confident, and ready to deliver.

Aroma
Pleasant and sweet. Nothing harsh, nothing off-putting. Just an inviting nose that draws you in and sets the stage well.

Flavor
Wonderful. The first thing that comes through is that sweet wheat character, and it lands exactly where you want it to. There is richness here, but it stays focused. This is not a soft, timid wheater. It drinks to its proof, and that is part of the appeal.

Finish
The finish turns firm and satisfying with a strong black pepper note that hangs on in a very good way. It gives the pour structure and keeps the sweetness from taking over. Neat, it shows its full strength. Over ice, it should still hold its ground.

Barrel Proof Score: 4.0 / 5

Final Call

For our first tasting of an Augusta Distillery product, this bottle absolutely makes us want to go back for more. This should have a place on your shelf at home, and it is definitely something we would order at a whiskey bar.

Not every wheated bourbon needs to be soft and easygoing. This one brings sweetness up front, proof in the middle, and a bold peppery finish that leaves a real impression.

That is a very good first impression.
