At Barrel Proof Notes, we've always believed that every bottle deserves an honest score.
But every bottle also has a story.
Soon, we're launching a brand-new feature series called Behind the Bottle, where we'll go beyond the tasting glass and take you inside the distilleries, the people, the places, and the passion that create the whiskey we love.
A great bourbon is more than corn, oak, and time. It's the vision of a founder who took a chance. It's the master distiller who spent years perfecting a process. It's the rickhouses standing through scorching summers and freezing winters. It's the local water, the grain, the history, and sometimes even a little luck.
Those are the stories we want to tell.
More Than a Distillery Tour
Behind the Bottle isn't a marketing piece, and it isn't a press release. It's an editorial series dedicated to discovering what makes every distillery unique.
We'll explore:
- The history behind the distillery and the people who built it.
- The grains, mash bills, fermentation, distillation, and aging that define their whiskey.
- The local culture and geography that influence every barrel.
- The philosophies that guide their craft.
- The challenges, successes, and lessons learned along the way.
Most importantly, we'll hear directly from the people making today's whiskey.
Straight From the Source
Whenever possible, we'll sit down with founders, master distillers, blenders, brand ambassadors, and the people working behind the scenes.
We'll ask questions that whiskey fans actually want answered, not just the ones found in a press kit.
Every interview will conclude with our signature question:
"If someone has never tasted a whiskey from your distillery before, which bottle should they pour first, and why?"
We call it One Last Pour.
It's a simple question, but we think it says a lot about the people behind the bottle.
